If you want any chance at survival a Whipple is your only option.
Less than 20% of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer are surgical candidates.

    Cancer treatment centers of America
Or make sure your case is discussed at Tumor Board at a large cancer center, not a small hospital.
Pancreatic cancer is treatable if it is caught early and treated aggressively. And they do do partial Whipples, too.

If you are lucky enough to have the cancer diagnosis in the early stages, consider yourself lucky and get the surgery done as soon as possible. Pancreatic cancer is notorious for spreading to nearby structures and you do not want to risk anything else other than surgery if this is what your doctor recommends. Furthermore, it is probably a good idea for them to have a look to see what is going on internally anyhow.
I have seen a number of patients with pancreatic cancer and most are not even candidates for surgery.
    Consider yourself lucky.
