Question by shaquille: What swim strokes are you allowed to use in USMC Bootcamp?
When your doing the swim qual can you only use a certain stroke?

They teach a combat swim stroke which is a cross between a breaststroke and the sidestroke. The sidestroke is a very good stroke for long distances and the CSS is even less tiring.

You can use other strokes but, you should pay attention and learn the best stroke.

    In Aviation Officer Candidate School we were tested in four strokes but allowed to use any stroke we chose for the “mile in a flight suit swim.”

    Most folks used the backstroke, but we had one smarta$ $ who was a college swim team captain who did the whole mile using the Australian crawl. By the time the rest of us finished he was coming back from a night on the town.
