What oil:gas ratio do people who race 2 stroke dirtbikes tend to use?

Question by Alfred: What oil:gas ratio do people who race 2 stroke dirtbikes tend to use?
I’m getting a 2 stroke soon and I’m not sure which ratio is better. Does something like 1:64 give more horsepower because of how much more gas it has to use but worse for the bike? Or does something like 1:32 or 1:18 work better due to lubrication?

Well, to tell you the truth, it really doesnt matter, personally, i use 1:32. The only thing that 1:64 will do is make the bike smoke alot more. Also, 1:32 is cheaper, you only need 4oz to the gallon instead of 8oz to the gallon. I wouldnt bother using 1:64 due to expense unless you are using high octane fuel, then i would probably use 1:64, but im not rich so im not going to spend that kind of money haha.

    Chris is mixed up. A 1:64 ratio is 1 part oil for every 64 parts gasoline, so there would be less smoke (since the oil is what creates it when burned) than 1:32. The ratio does actually make a large difference as well.
    Contrary to popular belief, you can actually get more horsepower with more oil than you can with less because the oil creates a better ring seal which in turns makes for better compression. You’ll probably have to make some jetting changes but if racing, a ratio of 1:20 will be better than 1:32.
    Be sure you use higher octane gas as well with no ethanol. Buy premium gas at a station like Phillips 66 (they don’t add ethanol to it).

    it depends on what kind of bike you have and what year, i had a 97 rm125 and i ran 32 to 1, 32 parts gas 1 part oil,…to get the most out of your motor, you re jet your carb. dont skimp on the oil, run your bike to what the book calls for and then buy jets for the carb. they are about 2 dollars a piece. then instead of running high octane fuel. buy a octane boost from maxima. it is much cheaper and does the same thing

    Racers generally run synthetic racing oil at 50:1. Klotz Super works great at that ratio. If you run normal oil at 64:1 your engine will fry.

    Run 32:1 on anything 125cc or smaller, 250cc and up run 40:1
