What is the medical term for when you have a stroke & aren’t able to speak anymore?

Question by luvbug62904: What is the medical term for when you have a stroke & aren’t able to speak anymore?
My aunt had a stroke & they are saying that she can understand everything that you are saying to her & she knows exactly what she wants to say, but her ability to talk is gone. Does anyone know the “medical term” for that?

Aphasia for can’t speak and Dysphagia for difficutly with speech.

    Aphasia means without speech and dysphasia means difficulty with speech. Dysphagia means difficulty swallowing.

    Aphasia-“Impaired or absent comprehension or production of, or communication by, speech, reading, writing, or signs caused by acquired lesion of the dominant cerebral hemisphere.”
