read that. and if your debating which to get i’m gonna assume you’re a beginner so I say go with the 4 stroke. it doesn’t have a powerband so they power is even and they are pretty much taking over 2 strokes. granted 2 strokes are great and do have their place in mx but for learning i say go with a 4 stroke

dude i’m not making an assumption I know this difference i’m trying to keep it simple for the guy.

What do you think? Answer below!

I COMPLETLEY DISAGREE with ash – other than the useful link ; ) – ash has made an assumption that only 2 strokes have power bands, this makes be laugh because most people who dont know anything about dirtbikes (or engines in general) think that a powerband is an actual physical thing! like a piston or a carb! LOL!

“The power band refers to the range of RPM’s (Rotations Per Minute) under which the engine achieves optimum characteristic’s”

Every gas engine has a powerband 2 stroke, 4 stroke, 87 stroke, 12345 stroke etc…

and 2 strokes are now used primaraly in trail riding and enduro, not mx (professional anyways) there are many bikes you could get if you are looking for a bike, but you just asked what is the difference between 2 and 4 strokes, and that link is pretty much it.

if you are looking for a bike, go to a local dealership, approach the off-road guy and ask him for suggestions, tell him your considering buying a brand new bike if you want. (give 2 and 4 strokes a chance, there mechanically different but equally fun : )

    2 stroke
    Plus’s
Quicker than 4T’s with equivelant engine sizes.
    CHEAP maintenence
    Exciting
    Powerband

    Minuses
    Not as torquey as 4Ts
    Premix
    Powerband
    Stall easily at low RPMs
