Question by John F: What does it mean to check for free play in the crank of a 2 stroke engine?
Someone asked me what the free play is in the crank this specific 2 stroke engine that I have. How do I find this out. Is it some kind of measurement I need to take or is it something I can find out by looking at the engine or feeling something? Thanks!!

there is freeplay, and end play, it is more likely that you are in need of an end play measurement than a freeplay measurement. in order to measure end play, you will need a tool called a dial indicator. what you do is remove the crank snout cover, and press the crank as far back as you can with a small pry bar, then put the dial indicator reading tip against the crank snout, and zero it out. then pry the crank forward, and read the indicator. this is your endplay reading.
