What are the signs of a heart attack or stroke?

Question by angel_black_lavender: What are the signs of a heart attack or stroke?
My mother takes vicodin, blood pressure medicine, zoloft, and several other pills. For a while she either forgets to take her pills or takes them with alcohol. Now the top of her head hurts often, the left side of her face shuts down, and her stomach hurt even after 29 pound fibroid has been removed. Did she have a minor stroke or heart attack and didn’t even know? Or is it something else? What can I do to make sure she stays alive and ok? Any advice would help. Thank you!

    signs of heart attack:
    pain in arm or leg
    Indigestion
    Constant Flatuance
    signs of stroke:
One side of your body numb
    Headaches
    Dizzyness

-I would say you mom had a minor stroke, based on the symptons. Sometimes, a minor stroke leads to major ones. I strongly advise that she doesnt take pills with alchohol, and go see a doctor right away!

I would tell her to stop taking all the meds with alcohol and the signs of heart attacks are..

Chest discomfort. Most heart attacks involve discomfort in the center of the chest that lasts for more than a few minutes, or goes away and comes back. The discomfort can feel like uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness, or pain.

Discomfort in other areas of the upper body. Can include pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw, or stomach.

Shortness of breath. Often comes along with chest discomfort. But it also can occur before chest discomfort.

Other symptoms. May include breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea, or light-headedness.

    Strokes:
    * Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body
    * Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding
    * Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
    * Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
    * Sudden, severe headache with no known cause

In my opinion she needs to go see a doctor at any of these signs

I would definitely see a doctor right away, just to be safe. Any numbness or lack of control of the face could be signs of a stroke. I would go asap.

    heart attack symptoms

Chest discomfort. Most heart attacks involve discomfort in the center of the chest that lasts more than a few minutes, or that goes away and comes back. It can feel like uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain.
    # Discomfort in other areas of the upper body. Symptoms can include pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.
    # Shortness of breath with or without chest discomfort.
    # Other signs may include breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness

stroke symptoms- * Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body
    * Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding
    * Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
    * Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
    * Sudden, severe headache with no known cause

Look for these symptoms and if you notice them, get ready to take her to a doctor. I think its a combo of the medicine, the alcohol, and forgetting to take the pill. You would know if she had a stroke. does she have slurred speech?

Sounds as though your Mother should consult a Doctor. Never mix those pills with booze, it is very bad. She may have ad a upper gastric episode. But without a Doctors consult, you will not know. The signs of stroke are weakness on either or both sides , not able to speak, drooping of the facial muscles. Heart episodes, usually start with a sore jaw in woman and pain in one or both arms. And the typical one, it feels like an elephant is standing on your chest. Shortness of breath. Get her to a Doctor as soon as possible. Good luck.
