Question by SomeRandomGuy: Is it possible to delete only part of a stroke in Illustrator CS2?
I drew a shape of a state, for example, using the pen tool- and I’d like to modify certain parts of the stroke to be thicker or thinner than others (or non existant at all). Is this possible?

Yes it is indeed. Use the scissors tool, or the knife tool. You can find these in the tool palette. These will cut a continuous path into chunks for you. However, watch out for the fill!
The scissors tool adds a point when you click on a line. The knife tool allows you to draw slices over the object, and it will work out the cuts for you, also creating lines reconnecting the open path ends so that you do not end up with incomplete objects. So the scissors are probably best for your purpose.
Also, if you want more variation on the line qualities, get into the art brushes, where you can create a vector shape, and apply it as a stroke.
