Is it just a pipe dream to buy a 2 stroke street bike from the 80s?

Question by Darcey: Is it just a pipe dream to buy a 2 stroke street bike from the 80s?
I’d love to have a Yamaha RD 400, a Yamaha RZ 350, or a Honda NSR 400 etc., etc., but is it unrealistic from the lack of parts, and aren’t todays’ 4 strokes just as quick as the 2 strokes of yesterday? Thanks.

Lil’ hot rod that RD400. They are out there and I see them pop up at swap meets from time to time. Have you visited these guys on the web?

Not a pipe dream at all. I’ve seen plenty of RD400’s for sale. You might have to drive for a bit to find one, but there are quite a few on Craig’s List for sale in the U.S. I’ve seen plenty of parts around too. I know it’s a haul for you, but I’ve seen more than a dozen old two strokes for sale any given year at Rice 0 Rama. Check out the web page link. There was even a guy with a Yamaha 2 stroke V-4 moto GP bike a few years ago.
