How to check to see if two stroke needs a bottom end rebuild?

Question by Bob: How to check to see if two stroke needs a bottom end rebuild?
I have a yz250 two stroke and I took the cylinder head off so the crankshaft is exposed. I grabbed the crankshaft and moved it around. It wiggles a little bit side to side but up and down it is solid. I also grabbed the stator and it wouldn’t budge in any direction. Does that mean it needs a bottom end rebuild soon? Or is side to side movement in the crankshaft normal?

As a motorcycle mechanic I will tell you how to check. Side to side is absolutely normal. There are specifications to how much but a little is normal. Up and down play is what you are looking for. It sound like you already checked for up and down play and you found none which is correct. When you have bad crank bearings you will know for sure. Your good to go.
