How to change the stroke on Illustrator CS5 BEFORE drawing your line?

Question by some random girl: How to change the stroke on Illustrator CS5 BEFORE drawing your line?
This may seem like a stupid question, but I swear, I knew how to do this.. but now for some reason I can’t. I’m using the blob brush and I want to change the stroke size before I draw. I know how to change it after. But how do I change it before? (I’ve tried double clicking on the tool). Thank you!

Make sure no object is selected.

    Click on the desired tool.

    THEN set the stroke width.
