I don’t know that they will for off road use but I think street use the days are numbered. Light weight, torque ratio can no longer be justified against the pollution.

I agree with the first poster. Im pretty sure that California has banned 2 stroke bikes for the street.

Basically most 2 strokes are now only for off road use.

I cant see them stop making them, because the competition is very feirce in motorcross and makes the manufacturers a great deal of money.

If ethanol or methanol become the ‘fuels of the future’ then, because they are both inefficient compared to petrol, a 2-stroke engine (which can tolerate the higher compression without the valve problems) might be the answer.

It’s only a matter of time before the Japanese manufacturers axe them completely, but KTM just redesigned their two strokes a year or two ago. I bet KTM will make them for a long time. Besides, all that the two-stroke needs is a technological breakthrough to come back strong. There was a point in time when the four stroke was dead, and two strokes ruled. Then all the sudden Yamaha came out with the YZ400F. With technology like direct injection and ethonal, I bet it will only be a few years before somebody comes up with a new two stroke that will be as clean as a four stroke.

    The motivating factor is SALES.

As they hardly sell any two strokes now, it won’t be too long before they stop building them.
