How can I to increase down-stroke speed on guitar?

Question by The Chode Whisperer: How can I to increase down-stroke speed on guitar?
Often when playing thrash metal, I find that my forearm gets extremely tired, from playing long lines of 16th notes. As any metal guitarist knows, playing palm muted thrash riffs (e.g. Master of Puppets) with anything other than all down-strokes sounds horrible. So, does anyone know any good exercises to increase my stamina?

sit down, turn on TV, and strum any string with only down strokes. Do this enough and your stamina will increase. Do this at either a comfortable speed or a moderately fast speed.

basically i got a metronome and practiced playing Master of Puppets a few times a day, adding one beat per minute per day

it just takes time. if you keep doing what you’re doing, and you push yourself, you will build your stamina. 🙂
