Do public kindergarten classes teach the letter J with or without the top-stroke?

Question by theQster: Do public kindergarten classes teach the letter J with or without the top-stroke?
I am helping my son learn to write his alphabet. I noticed that some of his preschool lessons teach the uppercase “J” with the horizontal stroke across the top, and some without. Is there a current standard in public kindergarten regarding the “J” with or without the top stroke?

Teach him to write it with the stroke just so he won’t get confused later.

You can teach it to him with the top stroke, but also explain to him that it can also be written without it and still be the same letter. If he writes it with the stroke in kindergarten, as long as he can also recognize the letter without, I doubt it’s going to be confused with any other letter, so it should be alright.
